In The Redskins Blog, Peter King makes this observation about Texans fans:
"The fans of the Houston Texans are not passionate. The fans of the Arizona Cardinals are not passionate. I mean, I came out here this morning, and all you see are people who are just NUTTY about the Redskins. They're out of their minds. They're crazy."
Lemme see. The Texans have sold out all their games since their existence, sell more season tickets than the Cowboys and already have some of the best tailgating in the league despite existing less than a decade. King is ill-served picking a fight with a fanbase who derives part of its passion from having football stolen from them and then restored by a miracle.
He wants to hear crazy from Texans? Not sure that is advisable but... come and take it. You don't mess with Texas, and you shouldn't mess with Texans fans.
Given what I know about the passion of Texan fans, he is speaking from ignorance. Ignorance of the facts, of course, is non-surprising from the typical national NFL columnist who has likely not bother to spend a Starbucks-sipping amount of time finding out anything of substance about our team.
If you read his quote in context, I believe he confuses passion for your team with being ill-mannered. In my opinion, Houston is the friendliest large city in America, but we are a prideful bunch, and we don't take insults lightly.
If he believes that expressing personal attacks vulgarities is important to demonstrate passion when responding to the typical stupid superficial things that national writers say about the Texans, I suppose people could do that. Personally, it is not my style.
But people show their passion for their team in different ways. I ask you please to email Peter King and tell him what you think about his opinion in whatever way you feel comfortable. Show him pictures of your Texans stuff, your tattoos, tell him stories, invite him to your tailgates, give him a piece of your mind--show your passion. Please do it now, before you forget about it.
Here's the url of the link where he was quoted that you can reference his quote in your email: http://theredskinsblog.com/2008/07/25/at-the-park-today-talking-to-peter-king/#more-233. Let me know if you hear back from him.

That Peter King is talking right out of his @$$. Pure ignorance.
AMEN TO THAT TEXANS_CHICK! THAT FOOL HAS NO IDEA!

Ok...question...is he by chance blind and deaf? That could be the only way this is possible. Every fan from other teams I have spoken too say we are the best tailgating atmosphere they had seen. AND I AGREE!!!
I took a few minutes to respond. In summary, I told him he had mistaken our lack of response to him as a lack of passion, but the truth is, Texans' fans don't care what he thinks.
After pondering Peter King's comments further, I think the only logical conclusion is that he misspoke. I don't really think that he truly believes that. In fact, I'm pretty confident that he would retract that comment if given the opportunity.
Here is the email I sent to Mr. King and used a similar note to respond in the blog itself:
Mr. King,
I recently read your interview with Matt at TheRedskinsBlog.com (http://theredskinsblog.com/2008/07/25/at-the-park-today-talking-to-peter-king/#comment-972) and take exception to the following quote:
“The fans of the Houston Texans are not passionate. The fans of the Arizona Cardinals are not passionate. I mean, I came out here this morning, and all you see are people who are just NUTTY about the Redskins. They’re out of their minds. They’re crazy.”
I believe you should have taken a cue from your own “Olbermann/Costas” point and kept your mouth shut instead of spewing ill-informed garbage about Texans fans. Redskin fans may be NUTTY, but that is no way to truly judge the passion of a fan base, least of all link us to the perpetual stink and shame that is the Cardinals abysmal organization.
We successfully kicked a lousy owner out of town and banished him to the Smoky Mountains while attracting the BEST owner in football. Since our inaugural season, we’ve only sold out EVERY game without a single winning season and created one of the best tailgating scenes in the NFL (http://theultimatetailgater.blogspot.com/2007/09/texans-tailgating.html). You sir, should not confuse the friendliness, knowledge, savvy, and intense scrutiny of our fans with a lack of passion only in comparison to the “in your face” obnoxiousness of our North Eastern brethren. That is a lazy observation and one a first year journalism student should not be allowed to make, let alone the famous Peter King.
I invite you and anyone else to sample the best that Texas has to offer to visit the Platinum lot on any Texans game day at Reliant Stadium and sample the TRUE passion of football. I assure you, you will see first hand just how wrong you are. Oh, by the way, we have already accomplished something that no Redskins team in history has done or will ever do for that matter…steal fans away from the Cowgirls! GO TEXANS!!!
Regards,
Joshua Hudson

Just send him a link to this site - I think the fact that more than 2,000 fans already have signed up and created profiles in less than 2 months shows that we have some passionate fans. Also, the 60 consecutive sellouts, more than 60k season ticket holders, etc. is proof enough that we have passionate fans, as you alluded to. The tailgating is more proof.
